My journey within leadership began at a young age. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, It was through watching and working with them I discovered the essential ingredients for success: connection, communication, strategy & risk-taking.
More recently, over the last twelve years I have worked in leadership roles for Shopbop and lululemon. At both roles I exercised these learned skills and I personally watched the impact and success of growth, from managing people and myself being managed. I experienced the IPO process in both organizations and from this have a strong understanding of how to scale culture as a business grows.
The most valuable asset I have taken from these experiences was the immediate power of leadership. To me, the most successful team leaders I have worked with shared qualities of generosity, a level of humility and strengths within communication. It is through these traits a confidence and resiliency grows within the company, allowing them, and others, to take calculated risks.
I've had the pleasure of sharing my journey, as a guest lecturer, through MSc courses at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, which provided a realistic understanding of management. I believe education is invaluable, especially real-life, learned experiences. Through this mindset, I was able to share with students how to apply their education and trust their unique instincts in building successful brands.
However, despite my experience, my knowledge of leadership and success is constantly evolving as I continue to seek out new connections and experiences with leaders who are re-shaping the way we think. My coaching education has come from the Co-Active Training Institute, NeuroLeadership Institute, ORSC, and ICA Associates. Through my Edelman media training, I have strengthened my public speaking skills and facilitated conversations promoting company culture. All of these experiences continue to allow me to coach, facilitate, and speak on topics that are relevant to how leadership can allow success in today’s world.
